Aural Training

Active listening is an important skill for developing musicality

Yet, many times Aural training gets neglected and left to the very end for preparation. Students come to me not understanding pulse, hesitant to sing, having limited knowledge on music history and unaware of musical features.

The aural component is also compulsory for all instruments in an ABRSM Examination.

Aural training content as follows:

Grade 1 - Grade 3: 45 mins session

  1. Clapping & Pulse

  2. Echoing phrases

  3. Identifying Pitch/Rhythm changes

  1. Singing from memory

  2. Sight singing

  3. Musical Features

  4. Recognising Style and Period

  5. Identifying time

Grade 6 - Grade 8: 60 mins session
